Peanut Shell Carrier
If you want to keep your baby close - for getting easily about without the fuss of a pushchair, and for nursing comfort - then a sling or carrier can be a great idea. The only problem is that often the straps and instructions for using them safely tends to put new parents off.

The Peanut Shell
Originated by a husband and wife team, the Peanut Shell range is described as 'fashionably functional baby slings'. That is, they look good but they literally are just a sling without all the belts and clasps and catches.
Made in light, washable materials (a range of colours and fabrics - the one we tried was a simple black fleecy number - are available), they come in various sizes to suit your body, from XS to XL, so different models will suit differently-built parents.
The sling is simple in design, but has some nifty features (like a little hook on which to attach small toys, and a discreet pocket for money or your mobile phone).
But where the Peanut Shell really comes into its own is that, despite the lack of adjustable straps etc, it can be worn to hold your child in five different ways, so you can carry a small baby or even a toddler (up to 36lbs).

There are lots of girly patterned models in the range - making them as fun to buy as changing bags! - and they cost £34.
