Review: Ella's Kitchen Smoothie Fruits

If your baby is still just breastfeeding, you may not yet have encountered the battles at meal time to make sure toddlers eat some fruit or veg along with their fish fingers, slices of chicken or hunks of cheese. Even children who love fruit sometimes just don't have the patience to peel and crunch, so, following through on the same lines as the likes of Frubes - which make having a fromage frais seem like a sport rather than a snack - the new Ella's Kitchen Smoothie Fruits are pure, 100 per cent fruit, in a slurp-able smoothie tube.

With absolutely no water, additives or sugars, and with an organic guarantee, they are a great way to get your children enjoying their fruit. Plus, their smooth texture makes them easy to feed to babies either as a pudding on their own or added to plain natural yoghurt (That's especialy handy given that finding naturally sweetened yoghurts without sugar, suitable for under-ones, is practically impossible in most supermarkets.)

In our house, baby Phoebe (one year) lapped them up, Eleanor (two and half) slurped away and then enjoyed inflating the bags back up afterwards, but Lloyd found them a little too sweet (he's nearly six, so his taste buds are maturing, obviously!).

They come as The Red One - which is a blend of strawberries, apples, bananas and raspberries, so is more suitable for older babies and children - and The Yellow One, which is great for early feeding as it includes bananas, mangoes, apples and apricots.

The packaging also makes these handy when you're out and about as they don't need refrigeration (they are pasteurised) and the top is easily tightened back on after you've squirted some out.

A pack of five Smoothie Fruits costs around £2.95. For more information, check out the Ella's Kitchen website.

We love these pouches.  We buy Ella's Kitchen baby food online at the Kiddies Kitchen website as our local supermarkets don't seem to bother stocking it.
