The Tummy Tub bath

There are lots of useful baby baths on the market (the best ones being fitted with a plug so you don't have to lift the whole thing up to empty it afterwards.) But we love the Tummy Tub - a popular baby bath that's deep enough for your baby to sit in but not so big that he feels too overwhelmed by the experience. (It's also not so big that mums recovering from the birth can't lift it up when full.)

Fitted with measuring guidelines down the side, to show you how far to fill your bath, the Tummy Tub is suitable from newborn, when your baby will sit in a fetal position at the bottom of the tub. Due to the design, he is never far way from your reassuring hands. In this position, without too much water, your baby's head will be supported by the sides of the Tub and you will easily be able to handle your baby without worrying that he's going to slip around like a bar of soap.

When you add more water, your small baby will float and you can wash and support with both hands. By the time your baby is 12 to 16 weeks, you need less water but can still use the Tub for easy bathing.

Because the bath uses less water, it saves time, keeps the water warmer for about 20 minutes and is more ecologically friendly.

Because of its shape and design, the Tummy Tub is less cumbersome to take with you on travels - which is useful when you're loading up cots etc on those first trips away with your child. Additionally, you can buy a 'Two Step Stool' which is suitable for older children to sit on and can fit securely under your baby's Tummy Tub to bring your baby up to your height, if you prefer to bathe them sitting at a chair or if you have a bad back.
