It is not always easy, when you have children, to envisage the reality of using real nappies. The thought of mothers from bygone times, swilling out buckets of soiled terry nappies and hanging out a washload every day, does not exactly enthrall a mum nowadays.
It's understandable - there rarely seems to be a spare minute to devote to extra work, so why not fall back on disposables?
Ecologically, the argument for reusable nappies far outweighs the case for disposables. A disposable nappy will take over 100 years to biodegrade and every single one you use just adds to landfill. A headache for your child in the future.
Style-wise, there are so many fabulous designs for reusable nappies, it's no surprise they are growing in popularity. In the UK, an impressive 15 per cent of parents use reusables compared to way less than 10 per cent in any other EU country.
This week is Real Nappy Week, so expect to hear a lot more about the joys of greener bottoms over the coming days!
