Infant carriers are ideal for newborn babies because they give them support to and from your car as well as keeping them safe whilst your driving.

In recent years, thinking has come round to the fact that babies shouldn't be in a carrier for unduly long periods, but whilst on the move by car, they can't be beaten for safety.

Mamas & Papas have responded well to safety design innovation and this month they relaunch their best-selling carrier/seat with added side impact protection. The design works well, without making their carrier look claustrophobic. It also provides more support for your newborn baby's head.

Unlike many carriers, which are only suitable until your baby is about six months old, the Primo Viaggio is suitable from birth to 13kg (around 12 to 15 months). It also now comes with an adjustable base which can be left in the car, so you don't have to worry that fiddling with it every time your drive anywhere is going to compromise a correct fitting. And the seat can be used safely, without the base, if you are travelling abroad or using another car.

The carrier also clicks easily into any Mamas & Papas pushchair or chassis that has M&P Surefix as a feature, for use as part of a travel system.

The new seat costs £130 (with Surefix SIP base an additional £30), and comes in a range of colours and patterns.
