Review: Dr Brown's Natural Flow feeding bottle

Dr Brown's Natural Flow feeding bottle

Designed to cut out air bubbles and decrease pressure making it comfortable for baby to feed.
Quite big for most sterilisers and a bit fiddly to clean, but it is dishwasher safe
Features: Available with standard or wide neck fittings, internal vent to cut out bubbles, silicone nipple (teat)
Price: £5.45 for eight-ounce bottle, smaller ones are slightly cheaper
Size: Two, four and eight ounce bottle sizes
Contact: www.drbrowns.co.uk

The concept:
Dr Brown's Natural Flow bottles are designed with a whizzy-looking internal vent to combat those pesky air-bubbles that occur whether you're giving your child formula or expressed milk. As well as possibly exacerbating colic, gassiness after feeding can cause your baby digestive upsets and affect sleeping.

The vent reduces the gas and doesn't create a vaccuum, so even when your baby is sucking ferociously, she won't get a pressure build-up in her ears - useful in that first year when teething, sniffles and day to day growing can often result in runny noses and blocked heads for babies.

In keeping with the Dr Brown 'natural' experience, aimed at getting as close to breastfeeding as possible, the silicone teat is a softer suckling option than the usual silicone ones.

In action:
This bottle is pretty user-friendly, although you do feel you need to really rinse out the vent thoroughly.

When you're just feeding the odd bottle because you're part-breastfeeding, or if you only use a bottle for those times when your expressed milk is used and you are out, then these are a lovely choice. However, you can't fit many into a steriliser and if you're on a full-on bottle regime, you might find that having to wash and sterilise a few without being able to do them all in one go, is a hassle.

We found the bottle didn't drip as much as some others do, which was great because it doesn't leave babies with a big wet patch on the chest of their clothes. It also seemed to go down well as there wasn't any spitting-up afterwards and the burping was efficient and painless!

The ThinkBaby verdict

Fiddly but designed with baby's interests at heart.
Usability: 3/5
Quailty: 5/5
Value: 3/5
