Review: Pocoyo and the Toppling Tower

Pocoyo and the Toppling Tower

A lift-the-flap book for little hands
The modern CGI animated imagery isn't for art lovers!
Price: £3.99
Contact: Kids at Random House

'As seen on TV' is for some parents an added bonus. To others, it's a sign that this isn't some great creation of children's literature!
To be honest, at least you can give Pocoyo - the plucky little computer-generated cartoon character - and his animal friends a try on ITV before buying a book about him!

The clean white background of Pocoyo illustrations means the colourful characters are easy to pick out for young eyes, and although this isn't a heavy boardbook, the paper is like thick card, so your child can help you lift the flaps without it tearing too easily. (In fact, this kind of book is preferable at a very young age, to thicker boardbooks, which can be quite heavy.)

Pocoyo and his friends (Pato and Elly) are building a tower. They pile coloured blocks up, exploring a familiar activity whilst introducing shapes and colours to your book-sharing time with your child.

Up and up the blocks go, until oops, Elly gets the sneezes and they come tumbling down! The chums put the big pink elephant to bed to get over his cold, but then what should happen? Pato gets the sneezes too!
This gentle story is an easy, fun narrative that any baby or toddler can enjoy. Especially given how easy it is to make even the smallest child laugh when you knock down a tower of bricks!

The ThinkBaby verdict

Colourful fun for very young children.
Quality: 4/5
Illustrations: 4/5
Value:5/5
