The concept:
If you love the idea of the comfort and protection that traditional swaddling brings - my Welsh grandmother was a big believer in it! - but
you don't think you can whizz a regular blanket up into something effective, then the Bug In A Rug Summer Wrap is for you.
With a built-in hood and legs, and two 'wings' which you can wrap around your baby or leave tucked back, this is a great way of
protecting your baby's skin in the heat and sun of summer. (We'll be reviewing the snuggly fleece ones for winter when the weather cools down!)
Coming from Australia, as Bug in a Rug does, we like the design's usefulness for outdoor life in hot or cold weather.
The Bug in a Rug Summer Wrap is available in two colourful fuzzy designs (shades of pink or blue) and produced in a light, honeycomb
knit material to make it a gentle cover for your child which blocks out the sun's rays (it's UPF 30+) without making him or her too
hot.
There is also the Bug in a Rug cotton wrap which is again light to use, and soft for new babies. The cotton version costs the same (rrp
£21.99) and comes in gentle shades - pink, blue, yellow or white.
In action:
This really is a light material and being able to swaddle it close to a baby or have it more loosely covering their body but leaving their arms
free, it's a fabulously flexible way of keeping your baby appropriately dressed. It folds down really small, so in hot weather, when you
want to keep your baby in the shade as much as possible, in just a nappy, this is a handy all-in-one way to get him or her covered up quickly when
you do have to take him out into the sun.
We like the fact that it's so soft as this means babies don't find it oppressive to fall off
to sleep in when you're out and about!
