Review: Baby Bright and the Farm DVD

Baby Bright and the Farm

Applying the latest research on baby development to an entertaining DVD
The computer generated cartoons might seem a little cold for some parents

Price: RRP £12.99

The concept:
Professor Annette Karmiloff-Smith CBE has helped devise this bright, simple and entertaining DVD which looks at counting games, examining shapes and exploring animals and colours, as part of a fun way to help your child's mental and visual understanding.

Karmiloff-Smith is an internationally recognised expert in this field and many parents will be attracted to a DVD than not only amuses their child but also has some value as an early source of educational stimulation.

In action:
The DVD is broken up by small scenes where computer generated animations of three babies are addressed by the narrator. This instantly creates a link with the child watching and this connection makes the DVD all the more appealling. Simple real-life footage of small children at play and interacting with each other brings out the counting, recognition and naming tasks.

The colours are vibrant and the babies' big eyes make them appealing for other small children to react to. This is a joyful and light watching experience even if you don't want to give your child hot-housing lessons from the age of six months!

The ThinkBaby verdict

Visually bright, there's lots for new eyes to enjoy, and plenty to giggle at without feeling like your baby is being tested too hard.
Entertainment: 4/5
Value: 3/5
