Fancy a spot of roadkill for dinner?
An artist and taxidemist has revealed a penchant for roadkill dinners since becoming pregnant. The 42-year-old mum-to-be explained that she has cooked with roadkill animals before, but her pregnancy has made her crave the gamey taste more than ever.
“Usually I eat really healthily but now I'm pregnant I get strong cravings for roadkill,” said Alison Brierley. “It's probably because I need all the natural iron I can get at the moment, what with all these extra red blood cells I am making.”
Alison, 42, is expecting a baby boy with her partner Marcus Speer. A taxidermist and artists by trade, she’s no stranger to picking up roadkill, but she’s conscious of the need to keep her baby safe.
“Because I'm pregnant I've been extra careful when handling the carcasses and I always wear gloves. I don't want to risk any infections that could hurt the baby.”
Bet you’re glad you only craved chocolate and egg sandwiches now, eh?
