Taking a calcium supplement when pregnant could help protect your baby's teeth as they grow older, a new study says.

The Argentinian study, followed 195 children until the age of 12, whose mums were given either calcium or a placebo.

The study showed that children whose mums received calcium had a 27% decrease in developing decayed, missing or filled teeth.

“Teeth mineralization starts during foetal life and this could be a kind of positive foetal programming that carries on through life”, said Dr Luz Gibbons, of the Institute for Clinical Effectiveness and Health Policy in Buenos Aires.
