Could morning sickness be cured by downloading an app from iTunes?
In pregnancy your body is doing something amazing. But while it’s busy working on the incredible feat of creating a baby, there can be a few not-so-nice side effects mums-to-be who experience them find rather uncomfortable.
A survey of 3,000 pregnant women by Dulcobalance, discovered that the main discomforts of pregnancy - exhaustion, heartburn and back pain - are present during all three trimesters. Other side effects, such as constipation and nausea are felt more in early pregnancy, while swollen ankles were more of a problem in the third trimester.
In early pregnancy, 53% of the mums-to-be polled put morning sickness as their top irritation, followed by exhaustion, heartburn, lower back pain, weight gain, constipation, lack of sleep, excess gas, stretch marks and swollen ankles.
By the second trimester, only 21% still rate nausea as a big problem. Instead, heartburn, exhaustion and lower back pain climb up in the annoyance stakes. Weight gain and lack of sleep remain concerns and 11% of the women also complain of embarrassing pregnancy discomforts such as constipation and burping and gas (9%).
By the third trimester, mums rank lower back pain as their biggest problem. Which isn’t surprising when you remember that by the third trimester your baby’s almost big enough to be born and quite a weight to be carrying around.
