Davina McCall joins the ranks of celeb mums keen to pass on their pregnancy experience, but unlike many glamourous famous people who think they know it all after one baby, she has had three! Add to that the fact that she looks great but isn't a stick-insect, and that she has the manner of a best friend rather than an 'expert', and you feel you can really trust what she is saying in this down-to-earth guide to some simple, non-strenuous exercises.
McCall only started doing low-level training whilst pregnant with her second baby, and is still a big believer in not over-obsessing about weight and shape. Instead, she enthuses about the good a small amount of exercise can do in giving you the stamina you need for the birth.
However, having started to work with trainers, she seized the chance with her third pregnancy, to film this DVD with bump and then without. And the fact that you can see her doing these exercises with her own pregnant tummy stuck out in front makes it seem much more approachable as a fitness regime.
Throughout the pre- and post-natal workouts, the exercises are subtle, and aimed at getting your fitness levels up, helping tone your body, and encouraging you to stretch and relax. Filmed in a soft light with just her and her trainer on camera, it has a mellow feel to it. Plus the music running through is jazzy and laidback - so you're not going to go into early labour by overdoing it…
McCall's sense of humour keeps this DVD from feeling like a cheesy fitness show, and her tips on pregnancy, birth and early motherhood are genuinely valuable.
