A vaccine currently only given to high risk children will soon be added to the general vaccination programme
an inflammation of the lining of the brain and around the spinal cord. Viral meningitis is not as serious as bacterial meningitis. The most serious incidences of meningitis can kill within hours. Meningococcal bacteria can result in meningitis or septicaemia
