Should I Wear a Bra at Night?
Some women find their changing pregnancy shape makes sleeping uncomfortable, but is a bra in bed the answer?
There are all kinds of reasons why, when you are expecting a baby, you might have trouble sleeping – feeling hotter, getting cramps, accommodating your growing bump, and getting used to your changing pregnancy boobs.
Many women find that keeping a bra on at night means they don't get sore breasts or a tired neck and back from the newly acquired weight. But is wearing a bra in bed a good idea?
Night support
Even if you find that your underwired bra is working fine during the day without putting too much pressure on the underneath of your
growing bosoms, you should not wear it as support at night.
You might find using a small cushion or pillow useful for added support in the right places, or you could opt for a night bra.
Companies like Emma Jane make 'sleep bras' which are softer but still offer good support at night. These sleep bras offer more support than a regular bikini top would, but they do not have back fasteners like a normal bra, and are soft rather than having ribbing or wiring, so they are much more comfortable for you to sleep in.
If you find that it's only in the last few weeks that you get uncomfortable and are worried that you are spending money on something you won't need for long, bear in mind that a sleep bra can be a useful way of keeping breastpads in place overnight if you have milk leaks in the breastfeeding months after your baby is born. They are also usually quite cheap (for example, you can buy a two-pack of Emma Jane sleep bras from Blooming Marvellous for £14.99).
